Online training courses

Each of Trimagic’s one-hour online training sessions covers a specific topic and uses examples that you can apply in your own Inmagic applications.  The following sessions are available:

Designing Forms for the Desktop

Forms are used in DB/Text Works for displaying and printing information from records in a DB/Text textbase. The DB/Text Works Form Designer enables you to determine the content and appearance of these forms, and specify how they should be used, for example, to display a set of records, show a full record, edit a record or print a statistical report.

Designing Forms for the Desktop is ideal for the DB/Text Works user who has a basic understanding of how DB/Text Works uses forms, but wants to know how they are designed and implemented.

The main purpose of Designing Forms for the Desktop is to show you the tools and features in Form Designer that will enable you to modify existing forms, or put together your own, for use in a DB/Text Works Windows Desktop environment. The training covers:

  • Form layout
  • Creating a new form
  • Adding calculations to a form
  • Viewing records in a new form
  • Setting a new form as the default
  • Print previewing a new form.

After the training you will be sent the PowerPoint presentation, screenshots of the example form used in the presentation and a step-by-step guide.

Designing Forms for the Web

Designing Forms for the Web is aimed at the DB/Text Works user with a basic understanding of forms design, who wants to make professional looking forms accessible to their customers via intranet or internet using Web Publisher Pro.

You will be shown how to use built-in DB/Text Works/Web Publisher Pro features such as index boxes, as well as how to add generic HTML and JavaScript to your forms. The training covers:

  • using indexes (browse buttons, links and dropdown lists) on query screens
  • adding page and website links to query screens
  • adding email links to query screens
  • adding email links to report forms for sending item requests to the library
  • using JavaScript to add a print button to report forms.

After the training you will be sent the PowerPoint presentation and the HTML and JavaScript examples used in the forms.

Canned Queries

A canned query is a pre-defined search presented as a hypertext link on an intranet or internet page. The search criteria contained in the link are sent to Web Publisher Pro when the link is clicked. This means that your customers are just one click away from getting the information that they need, without having to enter any search terms and with no specialist training.

A canned query can be included on any intranet or internet page that has access to Web Publisher Pro, and clicking the link performs the search immediately. Typically, the search provides your customer with an up-to-date list of resources such as:

  • new additions to the catalogue
  • specialist websites
  • items available from the library on the “topic of the day”.

Canned Queries shows you how to write a query and how to include it on your web pages. Several queries will be created during the presentation, ranging from simple to quite complex.

After the training you will be sent the PowerPoint presentation and the HTML used in the examples.
