The best way to make your DB/Text Works library catalogue easily and widely available is with a browser-based OPAC accessible via the internet. But what if you don’t have Web Publisher Pro or the necessary IT infrastructure?
Classroom training courses
Trimagic’s small class courses are held at our offices in Lindfield, Sydney, or at scheduled events around Australia. The courses are presented by a Trimagic trainer, but the emphasis is very much ‘hands-on’ as you will work through practical exercises with training databases. The following courses are available:
DB/Text Works Level 1
This hands-on one-day training course will provide you with the skills necessary to create and maintain a DB/Text Works textbase. The course objectives are to:
- introduce the concept of text databases (textbases)
- provide hands-on-practice with the various search techniques using Query screens
- practise displaying and navigating search results
- illustrate how to design menu screens
- provide hands-on practice creating, editing and deleting records
- provide practice creating textbases
- provide an introduction to form design.
You will learn how to use DB/Text Works to find and present detailed information quickly, accurately and in a wide variety of formats. Through hands-on exercises, you will:
- search a textbase with query screens
- display and sort search results
- display records in several report formats
- create, edit and delete records
- create a textbase
- design forms and custom query screens.
When you attend the workshop you will receive a workbook and disc with training textbases you can use for future practice. The workbook also includes ‘on your own exercises’ which will take you through:
- varying methods of viewing search results and changing search results
- interfiling Sort Results
- working with multiple Entries
- using variables in Form Designer.
At the end of this course you will have a thorough understanding of how to create and manage your DB/Text Works database. You will know how to establish a data structure and design menu, search, display and print forms. It is a complete overview which will give you the tools to take control of your database management requirements.
DB/Text Works Level 2
This hands-on one-day training course is based on some of the powerful, advanced features of DB/Text Works and builds on the skills learned on the Level 1 course. The course objectives are to show you how to:
- create textbases
- import and export records
- link textbases
- design data entry forms
- search secondary textbases
- edit secondary records from a primary textbase
- customise the Query screen
- design menu screens
- design advanced forms.
When you attend the workshop you will receive a workbook and disc with training textbases you can use for future practice. The workbook also includes ‘on your own exercises’ and will take you through:
- working with labels
- creating reports to display information from linked textbases
- exporting records
- working with an intermediate textbase.
At the end of this course you will have the knowledge and resources to take full advantage of the power of DB/Text Works and to manage all types of information, including text, images and multi-media, within your organisation.
Web Publisher Pro Level 1
This hands-on one-day training course will give you a head start in launching your DB/TextWorks databases to the browser. You will learn how easy it is to publish your databases to the web and make them searchable. Our instructor will show you how to set up a database on your web server, export your DB/Text Works Query screens to html and drop them into the right location on your Intranet or Internet.
When you attend the workshop you will receive a workbook and disc with training textbases you can use for future practice. The workbook also includes ‘on your own exercises’ and covers:
- overview of Web Publisher PRO
- designing a simple query screen for the web
- putting a query screen on the web
- designing an advanced query screen for the web
- using web query screens
- designing a report for the web, including ‘expand record’ links
- viewing records in web reports
- designing a display form for the web, including ‘see also’ links to images and other pages
- changing default forms
- editing textbase records over the web
- using menu screens on the web
- searching multiple textbases from a single query screen on the web.
At the end of this course you will be able to publish your own DB/Text Works textbases to your organisation’s intranet or the web, taking the power of your DB/Text Works applications to a higher level within the organisation.
