The firm of consulting engineers, Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) uses the suite of products provided by Trimagic Software for both library and project records management. Using the Inmagic platform products, Trimagic's records management application has been specifically tailored to SKM's requirements for project record management including project files, reports, and project photographs. Fifteen years ago, SKM was Trimagic's first client. Since then, other SKM offices throughout Australia have automated their libraries using Trimagic's services. One of the most important applications for the software has been the company project database. This is a large and valuable resource with complete holdings from 1964 to the present. The database contains information about each client, including job name, geographic details, fee, services provided, personnel, the reports and specifications generated, and date of completion. There is also a proposals database, cross referenced to the projects database. In 1999, SKM was looking to develop software to control project record management, including all project files, reports, and project photographs. Librarian-in-Charge Sue North championed Trimagic as being able to develop this kind of application. In May 2000 the company purchased DB/Text Web Publisher, Powerpack, and Spider. The Spider is used to crawl internal files and create a DB/TextWorks database containing all relevant data from the files. This database is searchable with a web browser across the entire organisation, using DB/Text WebPublisher to distribute the database. PowerPack is used to make the database interactive so users can input data straight to the database from their browser. |
